PepsiCo opens 3.5-MW solar farm in Poland
The Polish unit of US food giant PepsiCo said today it has launched its biggest photovoltaic (PV) farm in Poland, of 3.5 MW, in the southwestern Lower Silesia province.
The first phase of the project, which has just been completed, involves the mounting of over 6,000 bifacial PV modules on an area of about 2 ha.
The facility in Swiete will power PepsiCo's newly-built plant for the production of brands such as Lay's and Doritos. The solar farm will provide 2.8 GWh per year, meeting 24% of the total energy demand of the factory which consumes 11.7 GWh of electricity annually, said factory CEO Tomasz Bronny at the official launch of the facility on Wednesday.
The project is in line with the company's strategy to develop its own renewable energy sources, for which it has spent PLN 22 million this year. This is its fourth PV facility in the country.
In 2025, PepsiCo intends to install at least another 3 MW of PV arrays, said Artem Polienov from PepsiCo Poland's management.
