X-Elio powers up 15-MW solar farm in Spain after long delay
Madrid-based renewables firm X-Elio announced on Thursday that it has brought online a 15-MW expansion to its Turroneros solar farm in the Valencia region of Spain, raising the total installed capacity of the power complex to 50 MW.
The new facility is located in the municipality of Xixona and is a sister plant to the 35-MW Turroneros I solar farm, which X-Elio commissioned in April 2021.
The company completed the construction of Turroneros II in August 2023, but faced delays in receiving the regional licence to launch the operation of the plant, according to an earlier report by Spanish business newspaper El Economista.
While X-Elio raised concerns over slow permitting for renewables in Valencia, it nevertheless remained committed to the region, pledging to invest EUR 250 million (USD 263.1m) in new solar projects. On Thursday, the company reiterated its financial commitment.
X-Elio, a Brookfield Renewable Partners LP company, currently has 50 MW of capacity installed in the Valencia region, corresponding to the Turroneros complex, and 283 MW of projects in development.
