Ocean Winds puts up last turbine at 882-MW Moray West off Scotland
The 60th and final turbine at the 882-MW Moray West Offshore Wind Farm has been installed in the outer Moray Firth, off the northern Scottish coast.
With the last Siemens Gamesa SG 14-222 DD machine in place, the project is nearing the construction phase’s end and is on track to become fully operational during 2025, in line with the original deadline, Ocean Winds said on Friday. The developer noted that the milestone was achieved “against a very rigorous timeline and the varied challenges of extreme weather, grid connection and supply chain constraints.”
Work on the project will proceed with commissioning and testing activities.
The first turbine at Moray West was installed in April and first power was produced in July. The 14.7-MW machines are expected to generate enough electricity to supply 1.3 million homes annually.
Once Moray West goes online, Ocean Winds will be the largest offshore wind operator in Scotland. The scheme is anticipated to inject over GBP 800 million (USD 1.01bn/EUR 958.9m) into the local Scottish economy throughout its lifespan.
Ocean Winds is a partnership between EDP Renovaveis SA and Engie SA. A small minority stake in Moray West is held by UAB Ignitis renewables.
