Finland's Gasum buys Danish biogas plant
Finland's Gasum said on Monday it had signed an agreement to acquire Haerup Biogas, which owns and operates a biogas plant in the northern part of Denmark.
The plant mainly uses manure to produce around 40 gigawatt-hours (GWh) biogas which is used for power and heat production at the biogas plant itself and at a local district heating company, Gasum said in a statement.
"Denmark is an attractive location for biogas production because of its strong agricultural sector: manure feedstock availability is good, fertiliser demand is high and transport distances are short," Gasum CEO Mika Wiljanen said.
Gasum plans to invest in a gas upgrading unit and a gas grid connection for the plant to fully utilise the existing production capacity, part of a plan to significantly increase the group's biogas offering, it added.
