Coriance opens its second geothermal heating facility in Champigny-sur-Marne, France.

The Coriance Group has officially launched the second geothermal heating plant in Champigny-sur-Marne, located in the Île-de-France region of France. Although it began operations in 2024, the plant has now opened to the public with exhibitions on its equipment and the process of generating heat from groundwater.

Since 2016, Coriance has operated the first geothermal plant and heat network in Champigny-sur-Marne, initially serving the Mordacs and Bois l’Abbé districts in the eastern part of the city.

Plans for expanding geothermal heating coverage were announced in 2018, with Coriance awarded the project by the Campinois Public Geothermal Establishment (EPCG) in 2019. The second heating network aims to provide geothermal heating access to city residents and districts.

Expansion work on the district heating network began in 2022, adding 9.2 kilometers of new infrastructure. Drilling for a doublet started in February 2023, reaching the Dogger Formation at a depth of 1800 meters, which took about four months. Construction of the new heating plant began after drilling and lasted approximately a year.

By September 2024, the second geothermal heating network began supplying heat to 5,000 homes, resulting in a reduction of 9,500 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually, equivalent to the emissions of 7,900 cars.

Additionally, in the Greater Paris region, the Coriance Group has initiated drilling work to extend geothermal heating in Alfortville and is establishing a new geothermal heating facility in Garges-lès-Gonesse.
