Eos and Frontier have signed a memorandum of understanding for a 5GWh energy storage system.

Eos Energy Enterprises has established a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Frontier Power for a 5 gigawatt-hour (GWh) energy storage framework agreement. This partnership marks Eos' entry into the UK market, employing its zinc-based long-duration energy storage systems. The agreement supports Frontier’s intentions to participate in Ofgem's new long-duration energy storage cap and floor scheme. The collaboration will also explore opportunities in international markets beyond the UK.

Frontier Power CEO Humza Malik remarked that the agreement demonstrates Frontier Power’s dedication to innovation in clean energy and international collaboration. Working with Eos will enhance their portfolio of long-duration storage projects and strengthen trade relations between the US and UK, with local manufacturing potential in the UK that could drive economic growth and job creation.

The UK’s cap and floor scheme, overseen by Ofgem and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, aims to ensure revenue certainty for innovative energy storage technologies, encouraging investment in alternatives to lithium-ion and supporting grid stability and renewable integration. Eos’ eight-hour technology aligns well with these objectives.

Eos CEO Joe Mastrangelo noted that their supply chain strategy is designed to be flexible, allowing them to locate manufacturing close to customer demand, thereby providing innovative energy storage and sustainable jobs in regions where their technology is needed. As demand increases both domestically and internationally, they plan to expand their manufacturing capabilities, looking forward to partnering with Frontier to realize that vision in the UK and beyond.
