Ennatuurlijk purchases geothermal doublets in Andijk, Netherlands.

Ennatuurlijk, the parent company of Ennatuurlijk Aardwarmte, has successfully acquired two advanced geothermal doublets in Andijk, located in the North Holland province of the Netherlands. Previously managed by Ennatuurlijk, these doublets provide local businesses with sustainable heating, saving 28 million cubic meters of natural gas each year, which translates to a reduction of 50,000 tons of CO2 emissions.

The geothermal doublets have a total capacity of 36 MWH and have been operational since February 2019. With the acquisition of shares from a consortium of greenhouse growers, Ennatuurlijk has become the sole owner of these doublets. Nonetheless, the consortium continues to participate as a co-shareholder in the existing heating network. The company name has been updated from ECW Geo Andijk BV to Ennatuurlijk Aardwarmte Andijk BV.

Arnaud van Dijk, director of VD Holland, commented: “Thanks to Ennatuurlijk's acquisition, we can concentrate on our main activities without the burden of managing the geothermal doublets. We are eager to utilize sustainable and cost-effective heat, but we have found that geothermal energy demands significant expertise, resources, and labor.”

With this expansion, Ennatuurlijk now oversees six doublets: two in Andijk and four at Agriport in Middenmeer. Additionally, Ennatuurlijk is exploring the potential for a third doublet in Andijk to enhance the supply of sustainable heating in the future. The company also operates the only active High Temperature Storage (HTO) in Europe, which allows for surplus geothermal heat to be stored in the summer for winter use.

Alexander van Noort, director of Ennatuurlijk Aardwarmte, noted: “Acquiring the doublets in North Holland has been a long-held goal for Ennatuurlijk, reaffirming our ongoing dedication to sustainable heating. This acquisition paves the way for the future development of a third heat doublet in Andijk.”
