High voltage services company Ventus Energy has obtained contracts with Ocean Winds to assist with the 1800MW Moray West and Moray East offshore wind farms located off the coast of Scotland.
The first contract pertains to Moray West and lasts for 18 months, providing comprehensive operations and maintenance (O&M) for the offshore transmission owner (OFTO) assets.
This work includes timely inspections and maintenance according to original equipment manufacturer (OEM) guidelines, detailed remedial reporting, and precise record-keeping.
The second contract involves 24/7 HV control and alarm monitoring services for Moray East’s 66kV network.
This agreement is initially set for two years, with an option to extend for an additional two years. It will be managed from Ventus Energy’s HV control center in Belfast, offering HV safety rules management and dedicated support services.
Ventus Energy will field a team of 20 skilled personnel for both projects.
Both projects will utilize Elecsys, an electricity network management system.
Jonathan Lakey, asset integrity electrical engineer at Ocean Winds, commented: "Ventus Energy is now a crucial part of our operations in the Moray Firth. Their expertise ensures that Ocean Winds is maximizing Scottish clean power generation by upholding the highest standards in HV operations. The introduction of Elecsys is a significant innovation for HV asset management, which is already enhancing on-site efficiency."
For Moray West, the team will include HV maintenance technicians and engineers, cable jointers, project managers, O&M engineers, and auxiliary services personnel.
The Moray East team will consist of authorizing engineers, senior authorized persons (SAPs), cable jointers, fiber technicians, control engineers, and maintenance engineers.
Leadership for these frameworks will come from Alastair Symington, head of operations and maintenance, and Colin Bowman, head of control center operations.
Rauri Maguire, director of commercial operations at Ventus Energy, stated: "These new contracts with Ocean Winds enhance our expanding offshore wind portfolio and further establish Ventus Energy as a reliable partner in the industry. Both Moray West and Moray East are essential to Scotland’s renewable energy future, aligning with our dedication to advancing engineering development and innovation."
Ventus Energy’s sister company, RTS Wind UK, will carry out structural inspections as part of the contract.
All personnel assigned to each contract are authorized under Ocean Winds’ Safe System of Work and adhere to Construction Design and Management (CDM) regulations, ensuring that the highest standards of quality and safety are upheld.
