The UK and Ireland are set to enhance their collaboration on offshore wind initiatives.

The UK and Ireland are set to collaborate more closely to enhance subsea energy infrastructure and maximize the offshore wind potential within the Irish and Celtic seas.

A new data sharing agreement between the UK and Irish governments will establish a foundation for commercial developers to boost offshore energy by reducing bureaucratic hurdles and lessening the complexities involved in maritime and environmental consent processes for developers.

This initiative will accelerate development and attract investments in offshore energy infrastructure.

This new partnership aims to increase renewable energy production and bolster the UK’s energy security, in line with the Government’s Plan for Change.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated, "Energy security and national security are two sides of the same coin, which is why we must collaborate with our allies and partners globally to shield hardworking British citizens from external factors that elevate household bills.

"As our nearest neighbor, our partnership with Ireland underscores the significance of working with international partners to benefit those at home.

"In these times, we need to collaborate with like-minded partners to pursue global peace, prosperity, and security."

Today, the Prime Minister and Taoiseach are conducting a joint business roundtable with leaders and businesses from the UK and Ireland across sectors including tech, finance, clean energy, manufacturing, and construction.

The discussion will center on potential growth and investment opportunities and how the UK and Ireland can collaborate on renewable energy, technology, artificial intelligence, and security.
