A geothermal heating facility in Turek, Poland is set to become operational by 2026.

The second geothermal well has been finished and the construction of the heating plant is making progress, so the city of Turek in Poland is set to receive geothermal heat by June 2026.

This update was provided by the Municipal and Housing Enterprise in Turek (Przedsiębiorstwo Gospodarki Komunalnej i Mieszkaniowej / PGKiM Turek). The initiation of the geothermal heating plant's construction was announced back in April 2024, and the latest report indicates that construction is now over 90% completed.

The second borehole, GT-2, has been drilled to a depth of 2,665 meters. Further testing is required to confirm the actual thermal and physicochemical properties of the well. Nevertheless, this doublet (alongside well GT-1, drilled in 2019) will serve as the foundation for geothermal heating in Turek.

The drilling of the GT-2 well was conducted by UOS Drilling SA, while the heating plant's construction is being carried out by a consortium of Inżynieria Rzeszów and Energy Solutions. The total investment for the project amounts to PLN 85.2 million (approximately EUR 20.41 million), with nearly PLN 37 million provided by the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management as a non-repayable grant, along with an additional PLN 36.6 million loan.

Once in operation by 2026, Turek will host the 11th geothermal heating plant in Poland. Currently, nine of these plants are operational, and the tenth one in Konin is awaiting permits before commencing operations.
