Saipem and Divento will utilize Saipem's STAR 1 technology for floating wind initiatives.

Saipem and Divento have formed a partnership agreement to utilize Saipem's proprietary STAR 1 technology for floating wind initiatives in Italy, including the 7 Seas Med and Ichnusa projects.
Divento is a consortium comprising Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, GreenIT, 7 Seas Wind Power, and NiceTechnology.
This agreement aids their involvement in the initial auctions under the Fer2 Decree for floating wind projects in Italy.
Saipem was selected after a competitive evaluation of technical and economic feasibility.
STAR 1 is a semi-submersible floating wind foundation technology that provides a lightweight, easy-to-construct, assemble, and maintain industrial solution.
GreenIT CEO Paolo Bellucci commented: "This agreement further enhances the advancement of our 7 Seas Med and Ichnusa projects, which are leading the way in floating offshore wind in Italy.
"Together with Saipem, Divento can become a pioneer, promoting the spread of local expertise and the establishment of logistics infrastructures, thus stimulating the growth of this new and significant industrial sector in our nation."
The 252MW 7 Seas Med project, located 35 km from the coast in the Strait of Sicily, has an annual production capacity of 800 gigawatt hours (GWh).
It is the first floating wind project in Italy to receive an environmental compatibility decree from the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security.
The 504MW Ichnusa Wind Power project, to be developed by its namesake company, is situated 40 km from Sardinia's southwestern coast and has an annual production capacity of 1.6 terawatt hours.
Both projects are currently in the development stage, awaiting the regulatory framework for Italy's inaugural auctions for innovative renewable technologies.
CIP partner Kunal Patel remarked: "We are delighted to announce this collaboration with Saipem for our floating offshore wind projects in Italy. Saipem is a global leader with extensive experience in executing subsea engineering, procurement, installation, and commissioning projects—an essential requirement for expediting our initiatives.
"Floating offshore wind has the potential to significantly contribute to both the Italian industry and the generation of safe, renewable energy. We thus look forward to receiving clarifications regarding the CfD (contract for difference) system for floating offshore wind, which is vital for realizing this potential."
In a separate matter, the Italian government has recently passed a law to reinstate nuclear power almost 40 years after it was outlawed by referendum.
The Council of Ministers has approved a bill to this effect, introduced by Minister Gilberto Pichetto.
