Low Carbon, a UK-based investor and developer in renewable energy, announced today that it has reduced the number of turbines for its High Brenfield wind farm project in Scotland, decreasing its projected capacity to 66 MW.
The revised project will feature 10 turbines with a maximum height of 200 meters (656.2 feet) in what the developer refers to as a "Design Freeze" model. The initial plan included 14 turbines with a total capacity of 92.4 MW.
Low Carbon stated that the decision to remove four turbines was influenced by feedback from two public consultation rounds. "We have collaborated closely with our multi-disciplinary EIA team to refine the wind farm's layout in response to the specific concerns raised during the pre-application consultation phase," the company said.
Along with the reduction in the number of turbines, Low Carbon has also increased the distance between the proposed turbine sites and residential areas to minimize potential visual and noise impacts on local residences.
The High Brenfield wind park will be constructed southwest of Ardrishaig, near Lochgilphead in Argyll and Bute. The plan will not include a battery energy storage system (BESS) and will be submitted for approval to the Scottish government’s Energy Consents Unit (ECU).
