ENGIE has secured 4.3GW in power purchase agreements for the year 2024.
The French energy firm Engie has declared the signing of 4.3GW in power purchase agreements (PPAs) for 2024, an increase from 2.7GW in the prior year.
This raises the company’s total portfolio of contracted PPAs to 14GW.
In 2024, ENGIE signed 85 agreements across five continents: North America, South America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania. These transactions account for 136 terawatt hours (TWh) of electricity supply.
ENGIE’s achievements in 2024 include new contracts with Meta in the United States and an expanded global partnership with Google, featuring projects in Belgium and the US.
The company has established agreements in various sectors including utilities, chemicals, and healthcare, highlighting the high demand for decarbonized electricity.
ENGIE secured 1.5GW of PPAs in North America, underscoring the strong demand for renewable electricity in the US, even amidst the recent halt in federal funding for renewable energy projects under the Trump administration.
The PPAs encompass eight new projects expected to begin production between 2024 and 2026.
The 350MW Chillingham Park project in Texas stands as ENGIE’s largest solar project in the US to date.
ENGIE’s executive vice-president Edouard Neviaski stated to Reuters: "There is a strong appetite in the US for this kind of contract. There are still some questions on the development of some renewable projects, but there is still quite a lot of interest from customers."
"In the years ahead, we expect other regions of the world to grow more than the US, but we still believe that the US will hold a significant share of PPAs."
In addition to its solar, wind, and hydro assets, ENGIE is also leading in the area of biomethane purchase agreements (BPAs).
In 2024, the company secured several notable BPAs with firms such as Arkema and BASF.
In December 2024, North Shore Community Health (NSCH) based in Massachusetts signed a two-year renewable energy agreement with ENGIE Resources, a subsidiary of ENGIE North America.
This agreement ensures that NSCH will obtain renewable energy credits to meet the projected energy needs for its three locations in northeastern Massachusetts.
