European Energy wins awards for 52 MW in German wind tender
The German arm of Danish renewables company European Energy A/S said on Wednesday that it has secured contracts for two projects with a combined capacity of 52 MW in Germany’s latest onshore wind tender.
The successful projects, Zeitz and Drei Huegel, are located in the Burgenland district of Saxony-Anhalt.
The Zeitz project involves the installation of six new wind turbines with a total capacity of 33.2 MW - sufficient to meet the needs of 21,000 households. At the same time, three existing turbines will be decommissioned. The construction works will begin in the spring of 2025. Commissioning is planned for late 2026.
The Drei Huegel wind farm will consist of five new wind turbines with a total capacity of 19.15 MW. As part of the repowering project, seven existing turbines were dismantled to make way for the new installations. The wind park is expected to power 11,700 households.
In the latest onshore wind tender, Germany’s Federal Network Agency selected a total of 348 projects with a combined capacity of 4.1 GW after receiving bids for 6.1 GW.
“The strong oversubscription in the recent onshore wind tender demonstrates that the legislative changes in the renewable energy sector are effective. This is a positive signal for the energy transition and, in the medium term, will not only stabilize electricity prices but also strengthen Germany as an industrial hub,” Claudia Schilling, managing director of European Energy Deutschland, commented in the statement.
