UK: Electricity prices to double in the next years to come in comparison to those in Germany

A new report offered by bank Credit Suisse stated that UK electricity prices could almost twice those in Germany in the next three years because of the impact of a new tax intended at supporting renewable power production. The report showed that wholesale prices could increase in comparison to those in Germany by 85% in 2016-17 and would maintain the trend in general for the next 7- 10 years.

The rapid expansion of green energy has also curbed progress for new fossil fuels-based plants, although they were expected to play a bigger role in the energy mix after Germany decided on a quicker-than-planned withdrawal from nuclear power. Global wind turbines could exceed the threshold of 300 GW this year

World installed wind power has all the chances to exceed 300 GW of capacity this year, the equivalent of 114 nuclear power plants, according to data provided by European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) and the Global Wind Energy Council.

Statoil signed a 15-year contract with Stadtwerke Düsseldorf

Norwegian oil group Statoil intends to provide Germany's Stadtwerke Duesseldorf with gas for 15 years for a planned 600 MW gas-fired power plant. The new combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plant will be erected at the site of Stadtwerke Dusseldorf's existing power plant in Lausward, Duesseldorf .
