SSE to build a new hydropower plant in northern Scotland

Energy giant SSE has announced that it will build a 30 million pounds hydropower plant near Ardross, in Ross-shire, Scotland. The Glasa project, which will have a total capacity of about 7.5 MW, is due to provide enough green power to supply about 10,000 households, and is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

Gaelectric inaugurated new wind farm in Newtownabbey

Irish developer Gaelectric inaugurates a new wind farm at Carn Hill in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim. The wind farm has a total capacity of about 13.8 MW and consists of six wind turbines, generating enough power to meet the electricity demand of about 8,000 households for 12 month.

Bulgaria to switch off 40% of wind, solar power capacity

The Bulgarian authorities will switch off about 40% of its wind and solar power plants in order to equilibrate a power system in danger of instability following a considerable excess of capacity after a drop in consumption and exports.

Italy now has 16.9 GW of PV capacity installed

According to Italian energy agency Gestore dei Servizi Energetici (GSE), last month Italy added 170 MW of new PV capacity. This compares to about 214 MW registered in March and 126 MW for February. The GSE states this brings Italy’s total solar PV installed capacity to 16.9GW.

BNEF: Green energy investments to triple by 2030

According to a new report offered by Bloomberg New Energy Finance, annual investments in renewable energy is likely to almost triple by 2030. Renewable energy systems will account for between 69% and 74% of all new power capacity added worldwide by 2030 due to the decrease in the cost of solar and wind energy technologies.
