Wind energy sector has grown considerably in recent years all over the world, as an option in achieving sustainability in the energy sector. The World Wind Energy Association has published the latest edition of the World Wind Energy Report, according to which, in the last 10 years, the world wind capacity installed has increased by more than 9 times, from about 30GW to over 282 GW, of which almost 45 GW only in 2012.

The Spanish market for CSP is the biggest one in the world. The concentrating solar thermal reached 1953.9 MW of cumulative installed capacity in 2012 and it is expected that by 2020, Spanish CSP could reach 20,000 MW. In 2012, the installed capacity in Spain increased significantly as many projects with a capacity of more than 50MW started to operate. According to EurObserve’ER, Spanish electricity generation from Concentrated Solar Power reached 3,432 GWh in 2012, more than doubling in comparison to 2011.

Germany set a new solar record on Friday and Saturday, when solar energy plants produced a world record of 22 GW of electricity per hour, being equivalent to the power supplied by 20 nuclear stations at full capacity.

Poland’s economy could boost by nearly PLN 74 billion (EUR 17.5 billion) by 2025 if it expands its offshore wind energy sector to a capacity of 6 GW, according to a report released by Ernst & Young for the Polish Wind Energy Association (PWEA).
