Crude oil prices closed on a mixed note on Thursday, as demand concerns driven by the rise in COVID-19 cases around the world and bigger-than-expected weekly increase in U.S. gasoline stocks pressured the market. Hence, Brent crude settled at $63.20 a barrel, while WTI crude lost 0.3% to end at $59.60 a barrel.

Oil prices rose on Wednesday following EIA’s report on a decline in crude stocks. Gains, however, were limited by increased gasoline inventories in the US. Hence, Brent oil edged 0.7% higher at $63.16 a barrel, while WTI crude gained 0.8% to close at $63.16 a barrel.

Oil prices soared on Thursday, fuelled by upbeat forecasts for global economic growth published earlier in the week. Furthermore, a weaker dollar and a fall in U.S. gasoline inventories also lent support to the market. Brent crude gained 2.6 %, or $1.73 to settle at $69.63 a barrel. At the same time, the American WTI crude, rose by 2.5%, or $1.58 to end at $66.02 a barrel.

Oil prices surged on Wednesday, supported by decreasing gasoline reserves in the United States and anticipation for the OPEC+ summit on Thursday. As such, Brent oil increased by 2.2% to $64.07 a barrel and WTI crude soared by 2.6% to $61.28 a barrel.

Oil prices retreated on Wednesday weighed by an increase in gasoline stocks in the US and weak demand because of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. Furthermore, Libyan oil return to the market also put pressure on prices. Brent crude traded 3.3% lower at $41.73 a barrel, while WTI oil dropped by 4% to close at $40.03 a barrel.
