The first from 116 wind turbines was installed last week at E.On's Rampion Offshore Wind Farm, marking the beginning of the last phase of the project launched in the English Channel, nearby Sussex.

Each turbine has 262 feet and has a weight of approx. 220 tons.

The offshore cabling work will continue during spring. Onshore construction of the operations and maintenance (O&M) base at Newhaven Port will start in March.

The 400 MW wind project received support from UK Green Investment Bank plc and Canadian energy company Enbridge.

Once operational, the wind farm will deliver electricity to about 347,000 homes a year, which is around half the homes in Sussex.

By 2018, the wind farm is planned to be completely functional.
